Australia's top-earning jobs for 2021 have been revealed by the Australian Taxation Office.

Australia's top-earning jobs for 2021 have been revealed by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

No surprises here: surgeons topped the list earning an average of over $394,303 a year, followed by anaesthetists bringing in $386,065 a year and internal medicine specialists earning $304,752.

Finance dealers had average pay of $275,984 ahead of psychiatrists ($235,558), medical practitioners ($222,933), legal professionals ($188,798), mining engineers ($184,507), chief executives ($164,896) and engineering managers ($159,940).

The ATO compiled the figures using tax return data for the period between 2018 and 2019.

By comparison, the average Australian income, covering casual workers to full-time professionals, comes in at $62,549 a year. When only counting full-time workers, the average income figure rises to $89,000 – a quarter of what those with a medical degree are likely to earn.
